UN Talks Seek To Fix ‘Broken’ Global Food System

A three-day United Nations summit opened in Rome on Monday aimed at tackling a “broken” global food system where millions are starving, two billion are overweight or obese and the planet is suffering.

Nadine Gbossa was appointed director of Food Systems Coordination at the International Fund for Agricultural Development at a time where the Office of the UN Secretary General designated IFAD to lead the financing agenda for food systems transformation. Nadine Gbossa is leading this agenda on behalf of IFAD together with the World Bank.

Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Gbossa was director for the West and Central Africa region at IFAD, overseeing teams across 24 countries and managing an investment portfolio of about US$4 billion for sustainable agri-food systems including food security and rural development.

From 2015 to 2018, Ms. Gbossa was head of division for global policies and partnerships at the Development Cooperation Directorate of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris , where she led on OECD development cooperation policies in the areas of environment and climate change, gender equality and empowerment, crisis and conflict prevention, and effectiveness of development cooperation. Ms. Gbossa has had oversight of several OECD flagship publications for the Global Development Community, including the States of Fragility report and the Global Progress Report on Effective Development Cooperation.

Ms. Gbossa has also led several regional and country offices across the Africa region including the IFAD regional office in Kenya and the IFAD country offices in Cameroon and Nigeria.

Ms. Gbossa holds a master’s degree in Politics and International Relations from the “Université Libre de Bruxelles”, Belgique, an MA in Development Studies from the UK’s University of Hull, and an MA in Economics and Management for Rural Development from the University of Manchester, UK.
